The Pay It Forward Award was presented
to the Superintendent of Shelbyville Central Schools, David Adams, who
was honored as High School Principal of the Year in 2003 while serving at
Shelbyville High School. He recently served as a spokesperson for public
education and was highlighted in Time magazine and on "The Oprah Winfrey
Show." In 2006, he hosted the American Youth Policy Forum in Washington,
D.C.
The Golden Pineapple for Internal Customer
Service Award was awarded to the director of public relations for
Shelbyville Central Schools, Kim Owens, who received her award from
her boss - the Pay It Forward winner, David Adams. Owens was praised for her
devotion "to the needs of the parents, faculty, staff and school
board" of the city school system and her "can-do" attitude.
The John A. Hartnett Sr. Business Person of
the Year Award was presented to Mike Vaught, (Shelbyville Central
Schools Board Member) who recently sold his Shelbyville business after many
years of successful operation and embarked on a new career at Shelby County
Bank. This award is intended to recognize a business person who is involved
extensively in service and civic organizations and inspires others to greater
community involvement through his or her work.
Vaught has served as a drive chairman and
board president for SCUFFY and numerous other organizations and is currently
a member of the boards of Shelbyville Central Schools, Blue River Career
Center, the Major Hospital Foundation, Shelby Senior Services and the Shelby
County Chamber of Commerce.
